Residential Propane Uses:
Many homeowners chose propane as a reliable, clean, economical energy source. Propane is especially popular for homes in areas where city natural gas mains don't reach, including country homes, farms, houses in rural subdivisions, vacation homes, cottages and other rural dwellings.

According to the National Propane Gas Association , approximately 8.1 million households use propane gas to fuel their home heating systems. Propane gas furnaces provide warmer air, last longer and are less expensive to repair than electric heat pumps.

Propane is also an excellent fuel source for:
  • water heaters
  • fireplaces
  • clothes dryers
  • pool heaters
  • air conditioners
  • ovens and stoves
  • garage heaters
  • barbecue grills

  • Propane is much cheaper than electricity. In fact, it is about half as expensive, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. Propane gas water heaters cost less than electric units and are more efficient, thereby saving homeowners nearly $2,000 over the life of the unit. Gas dryers produce dry clothes faster than electric models, at a savings of up to 65 percent in energy costs. Gas fireplace systems also are money-savers, costing between 30 and 60 percent less per hour of operation than wood-burning fireplaces.

Gas stoves are preferred by 97 percent of professional chefs and also offer advantages over electric models. They offer instant heat, excellent temperature control and are unaffected by power outages.

Propane is also environmentally friendly. It burns with few emissions eliminating the strong odor associated with fuel oil and is more reliable than other alternative energy sources.
